Meet Ken and Karen….

Ken, a native of New York City, was raised in Miami, graduated from Suntan U with a degree in Underwater Basket Weaving (just kidding - he has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Miami) and began his career with the First National Bank of Miami.

From managing the Investment & Trading Division's back office, his next position was with the Division's systems vendor, Warrington Associates, a Minneapolis-based computer service bureau. His path there began with managing the User Support Group and supporting the Sales Group and ultimately managing the Product Design and Development Group. At that point, the company's customer base included more than 100 of the largest banks in the U. S. and became a target of SunGard Data Systems, one of the world's largest privately held software and technology services companies that only purchased the assets of their acquisitions.

Next, Ken incorporated the Rolland Group, a consulting firm providing operations consulting, systems design and development and operational services to small businesses. Ten years later, the Rolland Group moved to Punta Gorda Isles and added real estate services to its offerings.

Karen, a Chicago suburbanite, abtained a degree in Finance at Loyola. She entered the Management Training program at LaSalle National Bank in Chicago after graduation and earned her MBA from DePaul University while working full-time at the bank. Next, she moved to Minneapolis to take a position as Vice President of Operations for a major municipal bond firm. She later transitioned into insurance and employee benefits consultingin a management/sales capacity as Director of Marketing.

Karen and Ken met in 1983 while she was working at the Bank and they married in 1988. They had purchased their first forever home on Lake Minnetonka and then purchased a second home in Punta Gorda in 2001. A year later they packed up their things, sold their lake home, and officially became unemployed Floridians. Although not having to go to work was fun for a while, they both needed something to do so they became involved in the community. They took a boating safety course and joined one of the Civic Association's boat clubs to become more familiar with the waters, and Ken joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary. They also took a brief (and unsuccessful) flyer in a Hydro-Bike Sales and Rentals business and had joined both Chambers of Commerce.

Karen decided to get her real estate license and told Ken that he would really like the business; they both became REALTORS® in 2003.

And life has not been the same ever since!

Both of them immediately embraced their new careers and took advantage of every educational opportunity they could. They also became involved with the industry associations including the local and state Associations of REALTORS® and Women’s Council of REALTORS®. Karen served in various officer positions for the Women’s Council, including President in 2006. Ken served on the Governing Board of the Women’s Council as the Webmaster for several years. Karen is now a Past President of the Punta Gorda-Port Charlotte-North Port and DeSoto Association and has been on the Board of Directors since 2007 and Ken presently chairs the Professional Standards Committee. Karen has also served on the Board of Directors for the Florida REALTORS® Association for several years and just completed a term as District Vice President for District 13 covering Sarasota, Manatee, Englewood, Venice, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, North Port and DeSoto County.
They have both earned recognition from the National Association of REALTORS® for completing advanced educational designations (ABR, GRI, CRS, SRES, e Pro, AHWD to mention a few), making them members of the less than 5% of real estate licensees in the country to have done so. Karen earned the Commitment to Excellence endorsement from NAR in 2019 and Ken is currently working on his.

Today, they are still active in the community and have added TEAM Punta Gorda and the Charlotte DeSoto Builders Industry Association to the list of organizations they are involved with. They live in Punta Gorda Isles, on the water, with their dog, Barklee. They travel when they can and also spend as much time as possible on the water, either boating, hydro-biking or just hanging out!

Ken has a daughter, Laura, who lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children.
